East L.A. Film Festival Set for Saturday, June 10

  Family-Friendly Free Event Includes Entertainment and Art and Education Workshops

LOS ANGELES, May 25, 2017 – Bienvenidos, an affiliate of Hillsides, is co-hosting the East L.A. Film Festival on Saturday, June 10, from 4 – 10 p.m. at the East LA Civic Center/Belvedere Park Lakeside (“Parque de los Patos”) in East Los Angeles.  The festival will feature short films portraying tobacco and drug prevention and awareness created by children and youth in the greater East Los Angeles area and surrounding communities. 

The event, which is free and open to the community, kicks off with a slate of entertainment and speakers between 4 – 8 p.m.  Entertainment acts include the soul-rock group The Altons and several folklorico dance groups.  The office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, which is one of the event’s co-sponsors, will address the audience between 4:30 – 5 p.m.

Between 4 – 8 p.m., attendees can also enjoy numerous art and educational workshops.  Free HIV and Hepatitis C testing will be available.  Guests can also get their photos taken and have their caricatures drawn.

The film festival begins at 8 p.m.  Organizations participating in the film festival include AMP LA, Belvedere Middle School, Belvedere Park, the Boys and Girls Club of East LA, Casa Cultural Saybrook Park, Eastmont Community Center, Garfield High School, LA CAUSA YouthBuild, Schurr High School and Vail High School.

In addition to being sponsored by Bienvenidos and Hilda L. Solis, the event’s other sponsors are the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation, the Los Angeles County Internal Services Department, the Highland Park Independent Film Festival, Eastmont Community Center, Casa Cultural Saybrook Park, and TELASOFA,  a non-profit community organization that promotes human development and digital literacy through film and art.

The East LA Civic Center/Belvedere Park Lakeside is located at 4801 E. 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90022.
