Online Direct-to-Consumer Mattress Company, Leesa Sleep, to Donate More Than 100 Mattresses to Hillsides on August 30
8.18.17

LOS ANGELES, August 18, 2017 – On August 30, Leesa, an online direct-to-consumer luxury mattress company, will hold a donation event for Hillsides, a Southern California foster care charity. The company will give away 111 mattresses at the site of Hillsides’ Youth Moving On program in Pasadena, which serves youth transitioning from foster care to adulthood.

Those receiving mattresses will be 1) families receiving services through Hillsides’ Family Resource Centers; 2) families involved in Hillsides’ Foster Care and Adoptions program run by Hillsides’ affiliate Bienvenidos; and 3) youth living in the Youth Moving On transitional housing program.

“Hillsides is thrilled to be receiving more than 100 mattresses,” said Hillsides CEO Joseph M. Costa.  “We have been serving those in our community for more than 100 years, and many cannot afford basics, such as a mattress. They face hardships just getting through each day, and this gift will be affirming and even life-changing for our youth and families.”

The Hillsides mattress donation is part of a greater social mission by Leesa.  A certified B Corp, Leesa has a three-pronged social impact program that is considered the heart and soul of the company: One-Ten, One-Earth and One-Community. In particular, as part of its One-Ten program, Leesa donates one mattress for every 10 sold, and to date, has provided more than 18,000 mattresses to nonprofits that serve people seeking refuge from homelessness, domestic risk and human trafficking.

“We are inspired by the work of Hillsides in the local Pasadena community and their nonstop effort to better the lives of those who come through their doors,” said David Wolfe, co-founder and CEO of Leesa. “We are humbled to be able to help generous nonprofits like Hillsides by providing something as essential as a better place to sleep to those on the path to a better life.”

Leesa is donating the mattresses in partnership with radio and TV personality Dr. Drew Pinsky.  Pinksy is a long-time supporter of Hillsides and his wife Susan Pinksy is a former Hillsides gala chair.  Dr. Drew hosts the daily KABC radio show, “Dr. Drew Midday Live with Mike Catherwood,” which is on the air every day from noon – 3:00 p.m.  Dr. Drew and Catherwood will broadcast their show live at the Youth Moving On Peer Resource Center, located a block away from the giveaway site, on the day of the event.

The mattress donation will be held between 4-6 p.m. in the Youth Moving On parking lot located at 650 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101.  Catering will be provided by Firehouse Subs.
