Hillsides main campus rests on 17 acres of rolling hills in a quiet neighborhood of Pasadena. Six group homes, referred to as the children's cottages and located on the grounds, provide a secure haven for emotionally disturbed and/or foster care children ranging in age from 7 to 18. The main campus also encompasses an art and recreation center, the Children's Resource Center with private treatment and nursing offices for children , as well as a library with more than 10,000 children's books. A swimming pool, playground, dinning room, administrative offices, Hillsides Family Center, and Hillsides Education Center round out the premises.
On campus we provide homes and intensive treatment services geared to healing and redirecting kids who have experienced traumatic upbringings. Serving kids from Los Angeles County, including San Gabriel Valley, children in foster care or those referred by the Department of Mental Health derive benefits from social work and psychiatric professionals and a wide array of activities planned to help the children achieve their innate potential. The atmosphere in the cottages and the off-campus group homes is comfortable and serene. Both provide a safe setting for living, healing ,and learning.
Mental Health Day Rehabilitation Program
In May 1999, Hillsides introduced an on-campus day rehabilitation program for the residents. The program is designed to help children improve their social skills, their fine and gross motor skills, and to learn how to manage their behavior and emotions. Through the program, the children are in more intense individual and group therapy sessions where they learn how their life experiences shape their behavior and thinking and how to be more accepting of themselves and others.
