Hillsides Receives a $10,000 Grant From PLUS1 to Support Youth Mental Health
7.19.23

LOS ANGELES – July 18, 2023 – Hillsides, a behavioral health provider and foster care and adoption agency, has received a $10,000 grant from PLUS1 to support children, youth, and families with mental health services. PLUS1 partners with artists in the music industry to add $1 to each ticket sold during live events and donates those proceeds to grant recipients. The two organizations, both with offices in Pasadena, formed a connection over the significant rise in mental health challenges that both youth and artists have faced the past few years.

“PLUS1 focuses on connecting cultural leaders with organizations making meaningful impact in their communities. When we moved our offices to Pasadena at the end of 2022, we looked into who those impactful organizations might be in our own community, and Hillsides’ focus on respect for each individual and their practice of trauma-informed care resonated deeply with us. We are honored to make our first grant in the Pasadena area to Hillsides’ work supporting mental health services for children, youth, and families,” said Kathryn Schotthoefer Dreyer, Senior Advisor to PLUS1.

The funds from PLUS1 will be used to support Hillsides’ ongoing operations and core programs which include community-based therapeutic services; residential treatment programs with partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care; drop-in center support and workforce training; temporary housing; and school-based support services for children and families.

“We are thrilled to partner with PLUS1, a dedicated and passionate funder committed to making a difference in people’s lives. The artist community holds a unique superpower: entertainers have the ability to use their individual platforms and powerful voices to reduce the stigma of mental illness and become champions for our children and young people,” remarked Stacey Roth, CEO of Hillsides.

The donation will be made from recently launched PLUS1’s Mental Health Fund, which has been supported by contributions from artists’ tours including Beck, Cage The Elephant, SOFI TUKKER, and City and Colour. This fund focuses on providing grants to direct service organizations delivering mental health treatment, expanding access to care, and creating opportunities for personal, family, and community wellbeing for those who face high barriers to access while suffering disproportionately high rates of crisis.
